Help us avoid our shelter flooding this winter!

Our shelter, Aisopos, in the Kavala in the North of Greece, has been around since 1992. We have fought relentlessly to keep going until today. Every day is a struggle, funds are consistently low, and choices must be made between multiple urgent matters like food, medication, treatments, and emergency interventions.

However, we must now prioritize some work on our grounds. Our shelter is located in a fairly exposed area; we get the harsh sun during the spring and summer and a lot of rain and wind in the autumn and winter. Our cages get flooded regularly, which is a big issue. We must ensure the safety and well-being of our many dogs, many of them suffering from chronic illnesses. Keeping them dry is a simple and basic need, as is keeping the shelter accessible for us to do our work daily.

Both coarse and fine gravel will be used along the entire property length and in a width of 5-6 meters. A machine will dig a trench in front of all the cages, which will be filled with gravel so that rain can be drained off instead of flooding the enclosures. The pens on the lower side of the property will be raised, being leveled with the others. Pipes will also be installed to carry the water off the property; concrete will be poured over the pipes, as well as gravel.

All of this work and the materials will cost us 3000€. Simply put, we do not have the funds. Years of experience however have taught us that this needs to be done now. And for this we need your help, help us to not only keep going but to ensure a certain level of quality of life for our animals. Many of them will call Aisopos home forever and deserve the very best we can give them.

So please help us, help us achieve this relatively simple goal that seems still so out of reach for us. Know that your help and contribution will directly impact the lives of the animals and ours. Aisopos is run by a small team of all female volunteers, all with their own jobs, families and responsibilities. Yet we get up every single day and make these animals, these unwanted souls, our priority.
