Traumatic Brain Injury

Donation protected
Many of you know Chad for his warm smile and charming personality. He is charismatic; you can't help but feel compelled to know and connect with him. He has many roles: father, brother, friend, confidant, and fantastic bartender. Some of you have met Chad in his role as a bartender at one of Milton's favorite restaurants, The Dough Bar. He is loved and appreciated by many due to his winning personality and ability to make guests feel cared for and welcomed. He loves his job, and it shows in how easily he connects with those around him. He has many regulars that have made the Dough Bar their 'place' simply because he is there.

Sadly, on 1/19/22, Chad was in a severe accident that resulted in him being admitted to Kent General Hospital in Dover. He sustained numerous injuries to his overall body, multiple facial fractures, and a traumatic brain injury to his frontal lobe. For those who are not aware of the frontal lobe's job, this injury affects the higher-level functions of your brain.
  • voluntary movements (which are movements you control) of the opposite side of your body
  • sequencing of complex or multistep movements, such as getting dressed or making a cup of tea
  • speech and language production in the dominant frontal lobe (opposite your dominant hand)
  • attention and concentration
  • working memory, which involves processing recently acquired information
  • reasoning and judgment
  • organization and planning
  • problem-solving
  • regulation of emotions and mood, including reading the emotions of others
  • personality expression
  • motivation, including evaluating rewards, pleasure, and happiness
  • impulse control
  • controlling social behavior
Chad has 2 areas of his brain that were actively bleeding off and on throughout his time in the hospital. This has significantly affected his ability to process information and his memory. He can identify a person's face but struggles to remember names. At the most basic level, he struggles to sit up independently. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him and will not be able to go back to tending bar for an undetermined amount of time. If you know Chad, he is the type of person willing to help anyone at a moment's notice but does not like to ask others for help. That is why we are asking now for others to help Chad. Please know that any amount of help is welcomed and greatly appreciated. Let's work together to give Chad the opportunity to heal and not worry about his financial responsibilities. Thank you.
