Avid Animal Rescuer Now Needs Rescuing from the Hurricanes

The mold and mildew is everywhere. Anything that got wet has this powdery mildew and mold. It is so overwhelming.

I never knew the water I loved and enjoyed would bring me and all I own to ultimate devastation. I am a single woman in my 60s and an avid animal lover and rescue advocate. Weathering storms historically has been my option because of the other lives that depend on me.

The night of Hurricane Helene will be one that haunts me until the day I die as I stood in salt water and sewage water, moving around in the dark trying to keep the animals and myself as safe as possible. I never thought daylight would come soon enough, but in the daylight, the enormity of the damages engulfed me—not unlike the water I was standing in.

It was obvious. It was gone. Everything. My home. My belongings. My truck. Everything was destroyed by wind, water, sewage, and now mold. Being in the unsanitary conditions for so long, and obtaining cuts and abrasions, I now have contracted MRSA, but I am unable to rest or rehab anywhere. Survival is looming always right in front of me.

Hurricane Milton is barreling down on us now and will probably be a Cat 4—bringing more devastation upon more devastation. My heart hurts. I hate to ask for help, I know we are all struggling—long before catastrophes, but if you have anything to spare to help, I could truly use anything as I have nothing anymore.
