Avery's Medical Journey

Avery's story told by his Aunt Alyssa....I pray daily that this sweet family just gets to go home.  Please pray with us for healing, patience, strength and that God blesses this family.

January 15th, 2016 was a great day for the parents...they found out they were going to have their 1st baby.  After an ultrasound they said it was a girl.  Well....later they found out it was a boy Avery Ryan.  That same day they got a call that they needed to come back for a specialist to talk to them.  Avery had a cleft lip and possibly palate, and 3 different heart defects, DORV, VSD and an interrupted aorta. Tough decisions had to be made...they gave them the option to terminate, because they said that in cases like this most would likely miscarry.   Termination was NOT an option!  So on September 14th, 2016 they welcomed their sweet baby boy Avery Ryan Edwards into this world.  Our sweet Avery  was born with 2 clefts, a fused finger, deformed ears, heart problems and countless other issues.  He had his 1st heart surgery a few weeks after birth.   After numerous tests they finally got a diagnosis of C.H.A.R.G.E. Syndrome.  This is where multiple functions are affected like hearing, seeing, balance, airway stability, life threatening heart and respiratory issues, sense of touch, smell and many other challenges.  Avery had his 4th heart surgery on February 13th, 2017 at only 5 months old.  He has fought and fought and still has not given up even at his weakest.  The heart surgeon was at the end of the road and running out of ideas...so his brillant/crazy mind was to make a heart defect and put a hole in Avery's heart, at the last minute before ending surgery.  Sure enough Avery came through!  His little heart was beating with the help of the ECMO machine (heart bypass). To this day Feb. 24th he is now off ECMO but on the ventilator. He has had 4 major surgeries, 1 minor surgery, one major procedure.   Dad has had to work through most of this only seeing Avery in his off hours, while mom stayed at his bedside.  Mom is now having to go back to work because her medical leave is up.  It would be so nice to try to take some of the burden on finances off of this sweet family.   If you find it in your heart to give that is wonderful and if not please be in prayer for our sweet Avery.  May God Bless You and Yours.
