Two Birds Theatre Co. is an independent theatre company bringing together young creatives in Bristol to produce and perform new writing. Our goal is to enable our team to expand their skills to aid them in their career journey.

After a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe last summer, we’re back with Ave Maria, written by Lizzie Kilbride, an exciting comedy drama telling the story of a woman disguised as a male priest in 1296 in order to live the life she’s always wished for. Ave Maria delves into topical themes of faith, and the struggle of choosing between who you are and what you believe. Most importantly, Ave Maria takes on the challenge of telling the history of the queer communities often hidden within our historical narratives.

This year we’re going bigger and better with a larger scale of production, doubling our creative team and cast to increase the number of opportunities we can offer to skilled performers, designers, and producers. Two Birds Theatre Co. is proud to create an encouraging environment where young creatives can develop their skills and experiences across multiple roles in theatre production and therefore present themselves as versatile individuals within the industry.

Young artists today face a multitude of challenges to break into creative industries, with lower recruitment and smaller budgets. It’s more important than ever to support new independent theatre that provides opportunities for others to grow. Through your donation, we would be able to expand our production budget to provide our creative team and cast a far more beneficial experience to build their skills within. This could mean better quality costumes to work with and provide in their portfolio, a good quality film footage for actors to add to their show reel, and a larger set budget for our designer to fully realise their vision without restrictions.
