Ava's Vision Therapy

Ava is one of our four children and our only daughter. Right after our youngest was born in October 2018 she came to us saying that she was seeing double. We lived in Kentucky at the time and immediately took her to the local eye Dr who diagnosed her with strabismus and gave her glasses with bifocals. About seven months after that diagnosis, the eye Dr hired a vision therapist and Ava began receiving vision therapy once a week until we moved to Pennsylvania in November 2019. We moved into our current home the end of December 2019 and within a few weeks started making calls to establish medical care for all our children and also vision care for Ava. Unfortunately covid happened and shut things down by mid March and so we could not get any new patient appointments for Ava for many months. Finally, after a referral and two opinions by different eye doctors it was decided that Ava needed to have an MRI to rule out anything serious and if that was clear, she was a good candidate for vision therapy at a great place locally. Ava's MRI has recently come back clear and so Dr Henry is ready to proceed with a very intense vision therapy program for Ava which would be 48 sessions total done twice a week for 45 minutes each. Medicaid (the insurance our family has currently) no longer covers even on penny of vision therapy and the total for treatment would be $6070 if paid in monthly payments via opening a Care Credit account (18 months of approx $338 each month which unfortunately after all bills are paid we do not have close to that amount left to make a payment on VT). However, if we can manage to pay it upfront in full we will get a 10% discount. We have about $1400 saved for the vision therapy but unfortunately that is still about $4K too short and so several friends and family members strongly encouraged us to set up a fund raising campaign and I hesitated to do it, but we are really in need to start her vision therapy ASAP so I decided to go ahead and create it. No amount of help is too small as we will deeply appreciate and give thanks for every single dollar that we are given. Dr Henry who will be overseeing Ava's VT acknowledges that her case is definitely a tougher one (her eye turn is very bad) but he is confident that they have had success with very challenging cases before and so she could be another one. We are trying to do everything possible to actually correct her vision versus just putting her under for surgery to cut the muscles in the eyes to make them look straight (which may only correct it cosmetically and not functionally and carries its own risks). Thank you!
