My name is Ava Wade. I just turned 14 years old and I suffer from scoliosis caused by chiari malformation. This means that my brain was too big for my skull, and it was going down into my neck, creating pressure on my spinal cord, resulting in my spine deformity. In July, I had to undergo Posterior Fossa Decompresson surgery. This is a brain surgery procedure where they removed a piece of my skull to make more space for my brain. Now, I have to get Spinal Fusion surgery to correct my scoliosis. My diseases have been extremely debilitating to my regular everyday life and have taken a huge toll to my mental health and overall life quality. These surgeries will help me return to my everyday life and improve my life quality, helping me to go back to the happy teenager I was before this.
