Ava’s Surgical Procedure

UPDATE ON AVA, SATURDAY 09/30:
24 hours post-surgery, Ava was rushed back to the ER due to excessive vomiting to get IV fluids and anti-nausea meds. She ended up having to undergo bloodwork, get multiple ultrasounds, and receive a feeding tube because of her excessively low white blood cell count. The doctors worried that she had an infection so they did a thorough investigation and came to the decision that she does NOT have an infection, she has sterile inflammation within her intestines (which is okay because of how severe her surgery was). The plan now is to monitor her for 48 hours and watch for any signs of lethargy and make sure she eats and drinks. But the best part is we will be allowed to do this from HOME!! Since we got home Friday evening she has been drinking water on her own. Saturday morning she ate a few tbsps of food and has had no vomiting or diarrhea!!

This little girl has been through a lot! But this afternoon things are starting to turn around for her. She is fighting every second to make a fast recovery and we appreciate all of the help we have received so far and continue to receive!! Everyone has made this traumatic experience the best it could be. We are so grateful for everyone who is helping and offering prayers and encouragement. We will continue to keep everyone updated!

ORIGINAL:
Hi everyone! My name is Blythe and I’m a 4th year optometry student. I have two dogs, Ava and Frankie, who have been my best friends all throughout school! Ava was chewing on the corner of one of my throw pillows while I was in clinic and a piece of thread got loose. She ended up swallowing a ton of it and it got so deep into her intestines that we were unable to pull it out through her mouth. The doctors tried multiple ways to get it out, but unfortunately she had to undergo surgery. Due to my school’s raise in tuition fees, the expenses of my national board exams, and the expenses of my study materials, I’m left with little money for outside expenses. Especially high, unexpected ones like this procedure.

Her surgery, overnight vet bills, meds, etc are costing thousands of dollars. Every dime donated will go directly to the emergency vet who is taking care of her. I appreciate any and all help during this time. Thank you!
