Hi my name is Darren and my Wife and I are asking for help towards the funding for potential life saving nighttime epilepsy detection equipment for my daughter Ava.
Our daughter Ava is an incredible 8-year-old girl who brings joy, laughter, and love to everyone around her. Despite the significant challenges she faces every day, she continues to smile, play, and enjoy life with a strength that inspires us all.
Recently, Ava was diagnosed with epilepsy and is currently undergoing treatment to help manage her seizures. Alongside this diagnosis, Ava lives with a rare neurological condition called Lissencephaly (a developmental brain disorder) and a Chromosome 17p 13.3 deletion. These complex conditions affect many aspects of her daily life, including her learning, mobility, communication, and overall development.
As a result, Ava requires constant supervision and support to help keep her safe and allow her to live as independently as possible.
Why We Need Your Help,
One of the most worrying aspects of Ava's epilepsy is that her seizures can occur without warning and show no clear pattern. They can happen during the day, but they also occur at night while she is asleep.
Recently, Ava's seizures have become more frequent and aggressive. One particularly frightening seizure caused her to stop breathing, highlighting just how serious her condition can be. As parents, the thought of this happening during the night without us knowing is something we live with every day.
To help keep Ava safe, we are hoping to raise funds for a specialist epilepsy nighttime seizure detection device. These devices are designed to alert us immediately if Ava experiences seizure activity while sleeping, giving us valuable time to respond and provide the care she needs.
Our Goal,
We are hoping to raise around £1,500 to purchase a nighttime seizure detection device.
Sadly this equipment is not provided through the NHS and with charity funding being limited and not guaranteed, this is something we feel we need asap.
Asking for help is never easy, but the safety and wellbeing of our children must come first. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring us closer to providing Ava with the protection she needs and give our family greater peace of mind.
If you are unable to donate, simply sharing Ava's story with friends, family, and your community would mean the world to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read Ava's story and for any support you can offer. Your kindness, generosity, and encouragement will make a real difference in helping us keep our little girl safe.
With heartfelt thanks,
Darren and Coco.
