Our family moved to Albuquerque in November 2018. Ava is our oldest daughter who has since experienced a lot of very hurtful language from her classmates in her first year of middle school as the 'new kid.' The language and actions forced upon her became so bad that Ava wanted to end her life. My wife and I wanted the best for her, so we sought child counseling. Fortunately our health insurance paid for the counseling. One night however, the negative emotions Ava felt took over and we were forced to take her to an emergency room. Turns out that admission to the hospital, an ambulance ride, and in-resident mental health care costs more than anyone can afford. It's unfortunate, even with health insurance, that seeking mental health care is at the cost losing the family savings, or paying it off in 15 years.
