Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce you to Autumn, my daughter’s sweet new dog. She’s just 8 months old and was adopted about a week and a half ago. In that short time, Autumn has already become such a loved member of our family—she’s gentle, affectionate, and so brave.
Sadly, Autumn is facing a tough medical journey. Her leg was swollen prior to being adopted, but the rescue we adopted her from said it was getting better. After being officially adopted, the swelling only increased despite following the medical advice from the rescue. After seeking a second opinion, including several vet visits and a joint tap, we learned that the swollen leg was due to a systemic infection and has spread to her eye and lungs. She's already been to the ER, her primary vet, and an ophthalmologist. We’re still waiting on final test results, but doctors believe she may have blastomycosis—a serious fungal infection she likely had before adoption.
Since bringing Autumn home, we’ve spent around $2,000 on her care. If she ends up needing her eye removed, which is a real possibility, that could add another $2,000–$3,000. Sadly, the rescue she came from is not acknowledging the connection of the swollen leg to the other medical conditions and is refusing to help with any of the medical costs, so everything has come out of pocket. If we give her back, they will likely just put her to sleep.
We love Autumn deeply and want to give her the chance she deserves to heal and grow up healthy. If you’re able to help, even a little, it would mean the world to us. Every bit of support goes directly to her treatment and recovery.
Thank you so much for reading, and for any kindness you can offer.
