Autumn's Road to Recovery

Hi,
My name is Autumn, and since the leaves in my yard started changing colors, I haven't felt the best. On Thanksgiving instead of eating turkey, my mommy and daddy brought me to the hospital. There were a lot of machines with tubes attached to my body. There were weird noises, and a lot of people were coming in and out of my room all the time. I was a little scared. The doctors told my mommy and daddy that I have a rare form of Leukemia (Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia), and now I have to take medicine that makes me feel sick, so that I can get better. I have to spend a lot of time in the hospital, and I don't like that. I just want to go home and stay there.

The doctors and the nurses are all very nice and I know they are taking good care of me, but they tell me that I'm not going to be able to go back to school this year because the medicine is going to make me feel really yucky. My older sister is going to be at home too so that there is less of a chance that I catch a cold. My body can't really fight off a cold right now.

I know that Jesus loves me, and is watching over me, but it is hard to not see my friends at school. I miss the unicorns and baby dolls that we would play with, and especially the big dog.

I know that my mommy and daddy need a lot of help right now. They are going to miss a lot of time at work because they are taking care of me, and I know that my medicine costs a lot of money. Can you help? I would really appreciate it. I know that my mommy and daddy are really tired and I know they are worried about me. I can't see very many people right now, but if you can help with my medicine and to make it possible for my mommy and daddy to spend more time with me, I would really like that. Thank you!

Autumn is receiving treatment at St. Vincent Hospital in consultation with Children's Wisconsin Hospital. Lord willing the treatments are effective and she can stay at home. If she does not respond to the treatments as hoped, the next step is to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This is going to be a multi-year journey for Autumn and her family. Pray that she responds well to treatment and is healed.
