Autumn's Hero Arms Fund

Hi my name is Autumn Nugent. I am 34 years old and a mother of 3. I have one girl and two boys aged 15,13 and 10. I was born and raised in Evanston Illinois, but now reside in Gallatin Tennessee.

On April the 1st 2021, I was admitted into Vanderbilt University Medical Center due to an infection in my surgical sight. While being in Vanderbilt, I also contracted covid. I spent a week in a coma and I was given a 10% chance to make it.

After coming out of the coma I watched my hands and feet die outright in front of me. All my vital organs had failed, and my hands and feet had to die in order for my vital organs to make it. After two months the decision was made to have both hands and feet amputated below the Knee and below the elbow.

On June 11th 2021 I became a quadrant amputee. After 3 long months in hospital and 2 weeks in rehab I was finally able to be discharged and sent home.

After being out of the hospital I then went to hanger clinic try and be fitted with my first set of prosthetic legs. After getting my first prosthetics I begin to walk in the first 2 months of leaving rehab from the doctors and orthopaedics. I was a miracle that they had never seen before. I must say I had some amazing doctors that helped me get to where I am today.

Having a Hero Arm would benefit me so much. I would be able to get my new normal. Cooking, colouring and playing with my children are my passion. Being a quadruple amputee, the first set of myo-electrics were not compatible with being a bilateral amputee. Two Hero Arms would make all of my dreams come true to be able to pick up a pen and run my fingers through my hair is all I can ever want.

I have set up my crowdfunding due to my insurance paying more than half but I still have a shortfall of $8300.00 in order for me to get my Hero Arms. The Open Bionics Foundation have kindly said that I can crowdfund through their charity to support me in getting my Hero Arms. All donations will go directly to them and they will use those donations to pay off the rest of my Hero Arms invoice. The donations are showing in GBP because they are a registered British Charity and support people internationally to fund their Hero Arms.

I am very thankful and blessed for all of you that have come across my campaign and has donated and/or shared my story. Thank you all again and I hope that I have touched your heart in some way. May you all be blessed.

I'm raising money for my Hero Arms through The Open Bionics Foundation and every donation will help me get my Hero Arms. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
