Autumn gender affirming surgery fund!
"Tell your story" feels like a really intimidating prompt and writing about myself gives me stress hives so I apologize for how awkward this is.
I probably don't have to spend a lot of time on why gender affirming surgery is important. My relationship with gender has always been a little interesting. I spent the majority of my twenties trying to combat feelings of dysphoria by doubling down on femininity. Unsurprisingly, that did not work. I came out as nonbinary in 2021 following a bizarre, transphobic exchange at my job. I think that I realized, at that point, that living in denial wasn't serving me, it was only serving those who benefit from my fear and discomfort. I left that job and now I work as a psychotherapist specializing in working with transgender youth and young adults. I have an incredible support system and a better understanding of myself than ever.
My surgery is scheduled for Sept 27. I updated the goal to reflect one week of pay at job one and one week of pay at job 2, since I think fmla will work out but I'm just a bit nervous about the unpaid waiting week.
Thank you so so much for taking the time to read this, and for donating and sharing.
