Our Son Needs a Lifesaving Helper

Our 11-year-old son is bright, imaginative, and physically just as strong as any of his neurotypical peers—but he struggles to understand danger. He elopes, often when he’s overwhelmed or stuck in his own world. In February, that danger became very real when he escaped our home, made it to the nearby highway, and began darting in and out of traffic. A Good Samaritan stopped him just in time. Later, he told us he was pretending to be Sonic the Hedgehog.

We’ve done everything we can to create a secure environment:

• An AngelSense tracker

• An upgraded fence

• Motion sensors

• Deadbolts on every door

• Locks on every window

But no system is perfect. We are still human. What we now know is that it’s not just about keeping doors shut—it’s about helping our son feel safe in his own body.

That’s where an Autism Service Dog comes in.

These specially trained dogs provide so much more than companionship. They offer:

• Sensory regulation to prevent unsafe behavior

• Interruptions during emotional dysregulation

• Tracking during an elopement

• And perhaps most of all—a trusted friend

We are raising $30,000 to bring home a trained German Shepherd who can be his protector, his calming anchor, and his everyday teammate in a world that doesn’t always make sense.

We’re partnering with Vom Regis Regal German Shepherds and already have the perfect companion for Jax who is trained for his needs. Before she can make her way to Texas from Illinois we need to pay for her in full.
