Autism Service Dog for Rogan
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for my son Rogan Cortez, a 9 year old boy with Autism in order for him to obtain an Autism Service Dog. Rogan loves animals and is particularly attached to our family dog. Rogan uses our dog for comfort, but we are hoping that a service dog will provide him with not only emotional support, but also essential safety support when out in the community.
We were involved in fundraising since 2016 with a Non-Profit organization called Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers in order to raise funds for Rogan to obtain a service dog. Our family, friends, and loved ones worked tirelessly to put on events for fundraising, as well as donated lots of money and time to this cause. Rogan, who is an aspiring artist, also participated in art shows and sold his paintings, also contributing to fundraising efforts. Overall, we had raised $12,000 of the $25,000 amount...making Rogan almost halfway to his goal.
Recently, and without warning, Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers filed for bankruptcy. The organization never informed us that they would be shutting down completely, and that Rogan would lose the $12,000 that had been raised for his service dog. Needless to say, our family is sad and angry that this organization who talked of helping children with Autism by providing service dogs embezzled all of the money that had been raised by families in need.
Our family feels absolutely terrible for all of the people who spent time and money with the intent of helping Rogan however, we are not giving up. Due to the lack of trust we now have using outside organizations claiming to help children such as Rogan, we have chosen to raise the funds to purchase a Golden Retriever puppy and pay for the appropriate training on our own. The funds that we hope to raise here will be used to purchase a healthy puppy through a reputable breeder for this purpose. Once we are able to purchase the puppy, our family will find a reputable dog trainer locally to assist with teaching the dog the necessary skills to provide assistance to meet Rogan’s many needs.
We truly appreciate any donations that you may provide, and are hopeful that this change will provide Rogan with the dog he needs sooner rather than later.
