Autism Assessment Fundraiser for William
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I'm William's aunt Heather and I'm reaching out to ask for a little help getting this beautiful and very cool little boy a running start.
William's mom and dad would never ask for help, but given what they have been though with William, I thought I'd reach out. As some of you may know, William was born with inturned feet requiring surgery, boot therapy, and countless trips to a hospital over 6 hours away from my sister and brother in law's home. Williams physical recovery couldn't have gone any better but now, his parents, physicians, and other professionals see indicators of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Most obviously, this is scary and unknown territory for any parent who goes through this. Their main concern is how to get their child the best care and the best shot at life.
William was waitlisted for an autism assessment through regular healthcare channels; however, the family had to move across country and now William is at the bottom of a new waitlist here in Newfoundland.
In case you weren't up to date on the latest about ASD, early intervention is critical to success. William won't qualify for a number of amazing and essential services to help him thrive unless he is formally diagnosed. The waitlist is approximately 2 years long and the difference between intervention outcomes starting at 3 years old, instead 5 years old, is massive.
As a social worker, I work alongside CMS', Direct Home Services/Autism Services and I've seen first hand the difference these programs and services make in a child's life.
The most efficient way to have this assessment completed for William now is thorough private assessment. William's parents found an incredible team of qualified professionals (Mindful Matters) to get this assessment, and his appointment is booked, but the cost is high...Especially for a family that just moved across Canada, have another child besides William to consider, and who already endured an expensive medical journey with William.
I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to learn about William.
As a family, we're contributing as much as we personally can to help but even the smallest donation can help make this a lot easier on a young family who came back home from away,to make a life here in Newfoundland.
