Several large out of control bushfires are ranging across our beautiful East Gippsland. So far in excess of 1.2 million hectares have burnt. The impact on the wildlife and environment is catastrophic with no end in sight.
My husband and I are emergency service workers as well as wildlife carers based in East Gippsland (Bairnsdale). As we are working so many hours with the fires we cannot at present take on many animals, however we are involved with finding, and transporting injured animals to other carers in East Gippsland. We are raising funds to directly assist carers across East Gippsland.
As we are involved with carers across East Gippsland, this GoFundMe account has been set up to help out the the smaller shelters and carers.
As wildlife carers there is NO financial support from the Government and we pay all costs associated with saving these beautiful Australian animals. If you can spare a few dollars to help us to help our native animals it would be appreciated.
These funds will be distributed amongst wildlife shelters and carers in East Gippsland on an as needs basis. We have formed a small committee to discuss where the funds will be best placed and welcome requests for carers for anything they may need.
Our first purchase will be 10 sets of wildlife specific oxygen kits. Smoke inhalation will need to be treated urgently and having these portable units placed throughout East Gippsland will be a life saver. Emergency wildlife containment areas will also be purchased and set up at specific locations as determined in consultation with other carers and shelters.
Our funds will get through to carers via purchasing of equipment and emergency supplies as well as food and anything else that may be required. This will all be through transparent and documented purchased and transfers.
We are currently in the process of finalising our "not for profit" group "Wildlife CARE East Gippsland"
We thank everyone that has helped us along this journey, it's a tough one, but one that we feel is very worthwhile. We will post updates as we go along on where funds are going. Everything we do is for the animals....
