Truth-telling about colonial frontier conflict in Australia requires reliable and ethical evidence. Our work brings together archival records, Indigenous knowledge, and digital methods to make this history easier to access, understand, and share. We are identifying, mapping, and presenting information on Australian Wars and Resistance movements, the events that comprise them, and the thousands of people who fought in them.
Calls for recognition of these conflicts from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and historians go back at least as far as the 1838 Day of Mourning. Acknowledgement, public debate and decision making should be reliably informed. Our work is another step in a long journey for future generations.
We have established a consistent national framework to support collaborative and locally led research, with openness to feedback and ongoing revision. Years of consultation and collaboration across Australia have established a robust theoretical basis, research methods, and digital systems.
We are a collective of leading historians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and community members, including contributors to the Colonial Frontier Massacres project.
We are ready for the work and welcome your support.
