Help 15 year old Austin: Medical travel expenses

This is 15 year old Austin.

This hand you see above is what we call a CRPS flare”.

Austin was diagnosed with this rare neurological pain syndrome Feb-March 2023. CRPS is brought on by an injury to a limb. It doesn’t have to be severe to cause it. In Austin’s case, he broke his hand in January of 2023. CRPS affects your central nervous system. It causes the brain to remain in fight or flight mode. Therefore, causing misfires to the affected area long after it has healed. The pain consists of severe burning like he is on fire, severe stabbing pain, and occasionally locks up and is immobilized for short period of times. CRPS looks different for every one. It is rated as one of the highest pain conditions that exists. In Austin’s case, he was very lucky to have gotten an early diagnosis..as most it takes months or years for a diagnosis as many doctors may only see one case in their whole career and often are not trained to treat CRPS.

We found a doctor in Florida who is a CRPS specialist. His name is Dr. D’amato. And he does a treatment called the “scrambler” which retrains the brain to send the correct signal. Which means due to the amazing results this doctor has had over the last 20 years, Austin could have remission. However, it is not covered by insurance which has left our family fundraising to get Austin the treatment! And we have succeeded!

It has robbed him of doing regular activities like swimming in certain temperatures, socializing, household chores, writing, and sports; including Brazilian Jujitsu. Austin dreams of doing MMA and if it isn’t treated appropriately, he will not be able to do it.

Our family has worked hard with the help of a few family members, close friends, and community to raise money and awareness for Austin.

Now we are fundraising for the traveling funds! Please if you can give, Austin will be grateful. Every child deserves a childhood of joy, and not filled with pain.
