Austin's Heart Surgery Journey

Austin Rauch was diagnosed with heart disease and needed a mechanical valve, at the young age of 24. He underwent open-heart surgery and had a mechanical valve placed. He has to take several medications for the rest of his life. Austin got an infection in his chest that antibiotics wouldn’t treat. They did surgery again to remove the infection.

Today, Austin underwent his 3rd surgery; they had to reopen his chest and cross muscle to cover his bone in his sternum. They then plated his whole chest to stabilize his sternum. He currently has a wound vac in his chest and a drain. He has to stay in the hospital for a while, and they're treating him with antibiotics so he doesn’t get another infection. He was told there would be a 2-month recovery span.

Austin, his wife Keyanna, and their 4 kids, Waylon, Amelia, Lyla, and Asher, live in Mt. Pleasant, and Austin is in Sparrow in Lansing. We’re asking for donations to help with food while at the hospital and gas for Keyanna to get back and forth from Lansing to Mt. Pleasant, to be with her husband while he’s in the hospital. There isn’t room for Keyanna to stay with Austin in the hospital. Also, to help cover Austin’s medical expenses and medication he needs daily for the rest of his life. Austin is unable to work at this time, and Keyanna took time off to be with Austin.
