Getting Back To Work

My name is Austin Guidry, and I'm a video blogger currently living in Tianjin, China. I moved to China in Spring 2011 and started filming my life in China as a kind of video diary and a way to show my friends and family what my life in China was like. I grew up with a father who ran his own video production company, so I suppose it was inevitable that I ended up making videos of my own.

After I moved to China, making videos become my main and most-loved hobby. As time went on, more and more people started watching my videos, and I now have over 5,000 subscribers on YouTube. My videos cover a wide range of topics on China: food, cultural and habitual differences between China and the west, finding jobs in China, daily vlogs, strange/noteworthy stories and experiences, travel, and more. There is very little real information on the Internet about China, and the goal of my channel is to fill that gap.

You can find my YouTube channel here:

However, as some of you know, my house was broken into. While I was sleeping, someone came in through my second-floor kitchen window and stole all of my video equipment. They took my brand-new Retina Screen Macbook Pro, my two video cameras, my girlfriend's purse with around 800RMB inside, along with my girlfriend's and I's coats...I know, right? Who steals coats?

Altogether, the theft cost me more than 5,000 USD, or 30,000RMB. (the exchange rate is 6RMB/1USD)  This amount may not sound like a lot, but it was worth about 8 months' salary for me. 8 months of hard work just stolen from me.

Specifics: Macbook Pro Retina: 23,000 - 25,000 RMB, Canon VIXIA HFR300: 2,000RMB, Canon Powershot S120: 3,000RMB, 2 goose-down coats: 2,400RMB, and my girlfriend's purse with 800RMB inside.

Now, I have cancelled my winter vacation, am without means to film or edit, and may not be able to return home this summer because of the costs of replacing these things. I cannot replace them because I don't have enough money, but if I could, I would have no savings.

The funds will be used to purchase a new Macbook, Final Cut Pro, and a new camcorder, nothing more. If more money is given, I will put the money towards purchasing a better camera or microphone. My goal has been, and always will be, to make better videos for my audience. Food videos, history videos, culture videos, requests, Q&As, - all of it will be back and better than ever! I hope that all of you can pitch in to help me get past this terrible event!
