He currently lives and trains in Ithaca with the New York Regional Training Center at Cornell. After finishing his collegiate career this spring with Oklahoma State, Austin trained for 3 weeks for the Greco World Team Trials in Las Vegas. He placed 5th. This effectively put him #5 on the US Greco Team Olympic ladder. All of his supporters are expecting great things out of him as he will be focused almost exclusively on training and conditioning for the next 2.5 years. We feel he has already made a couple moves up that ladder in the past 6 months. He has already spent time at the USOTC in Colorado Springs and won the Canada Cup in Toronto. He recently competed in the Dave Schultz international tournament in Colorado Springs. He took 4th place. He will be competing in the NYAC Bill Ferrell and the World Team Trials tournaments in Spring of 2018. After this coming spring's ranking tournaments he and his coaches are considering having him bump back up to heavyweight and go after the freestyle slot as well. We are Looking at approximately $1,500 per month for living expenses (food, supplements, gas, maintenance & miscellaneous housing expenses). The expectation is that without drastically impeding his training time, he will be able to contribute $700 or so per month. That leaves him a total goal over the next 30 months of $24,000. Every little bit helps. Thanks in advance for your consideration. "Merica!
This campaign was put together by his father, Dan Schafer from Edmond, Oklahoma. Austin is trying to raise money to help support his goals of making a US World and Olympic wrestling team. Any money donated will be spent helping Austin meet his monthly needs (for food, supplements, transportation, etc). Donations will be transferred directly to his account a little at a time each month to address these specific needs.
