Austin Oliver Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
A few days after his 13th birthday, Austin and his family received a shocking diagnosis at a well Doctor's visit. His parents requested additional blood work after an unexplained Cranial Bruit. Austin never felt sick because he never knew how it felt to be well. They found a significantly elevated creatine level, resulting in a trip to the emergency room. Ultimately, after several days of testing and a kidney biopsy, Austin and his family discovered that Austin was in stage 5 Kidney failure due to a genetic kidney disease that he was born with. This type of kidney disease often goes undetected until the child is at end-stage kidney failure. Soon after his diagnosis, Austin underwent surgery to have a port inserted into his chest for his Dialysis treatments. Austin, who loves to play sports (especially soccer) and is a diligent student, found out that he could never again play the sports he loves. He could only attend school with a modified schedule to accommodate his 3-day-a-week dialysis schedule, which was devastating. His parents also needed to change their work schedules to bring him to and from his treatments.
What no one knows is waiting for a kidney transplant, even as a minor, can take many years to find the right match. A Kidney Transplant poses many risks and is a lifelong illness, with years of hospital stays and medical bills. The average lifespan of a donated kidney is 10-15 years, so Austin will likely have to have more than one transplant over his life.
Any help to support Austin and his family through this trying time is greatly appreciated. This go fund will help with Medical expenses for his treatment and costs to cover all of the missed work days for his parents to be with him through his treatment.
