Austin Hayes Memorial

You know when you watch 20/20, Dateline, or any show explaining the death of someone and when describing the deceased, they use the most grand phrases: “she was the light of the room,” “everyone wanted to be friends with him,” “they were always the first one to call and check on me,”…. you get the point. Sometimes you wonder, “are they just saying that, or are those true statements?” Well, I can say with one hundred percent confidence that every grand phrase you hear describing Austin Hayes was one hundred percent accurate. That man, just barely 30 years old, was a God send to almost everyone he encountered. He was the most positive, upbeat, lively human in the gym, every single time. He was constantly offering his help, even when he needed help too. Austin’s light shined brighter than his perfect white teeth and it will never be forgotten.

His mother, Angela Hayes, has been battling Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer since the end of December, 2018. Austin considered his mother his hero, his Wonder Woman, and strived to live each day to the fullest in honor of her. He made many trips to Spokane, his hometown and where his family currently resides, to spend time with his family whenever possible. He is survived by his mother Angela, father Rob, sister Ashlyn, brother Andrew, and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Austin was trying to think of creative ways to financially support his family with his mother’s medical costs. Adding an unplanned funeral to their list of expenses could not be further from what they expected during this already difficult time. Austin was working hard to get in better shape and lead a healthier lifestyle at Cascade Crossfit. He was easily one of the brightest souls and hardest workers in every workout he attended, so his community would like to honor him by raising funds for his funeral costs, his mother’s medical costs, and his family.

From this point on September 20th will always be an “Austin Hayes” memorial WOD at Cascade Crossfit for as long as this gym is standing. This first memorial WOD will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 10AM and everyone is welcome. Any funds collected for drop in fees, merchandise, and donations that day will be given directly to his family.  If you are not able to donate monetarily, I encourage you to donate your time volunteering or spend time with your loved ones in Austin’s honor. Austin was such a giving person and would appreciate this gesture, no question.
