Austin Hasil car wreck recovery

Hi, my name is Kim Sharp. On Saturday, December 30th, a very dear friend of ours, Austin Hasil, was involved in a car wreck on route 20 on his way to work. He was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and is currently in the neurology unit. Austin suffered multiple injuries, including a rupture to his eardrums and a break behind his sinuses. We’re still waiting on results from his MRI and CT scan to see what other damage has been done. At this point, his neurologist thinks he will be in a neck brace for about 3 months which means he won’t be able to drive so he will not be able to make it to work.

Austin’s car also got totaled in the crash so he will be needing a new car when the time comes.

We’re hoping with help, Austin can solely focus his strength and energy on healing the best he can over the next coming months.

Austin’s family is by his side in the hospital and appreciates any prayers sent his way.

As you can imagine it's one of the worst phone calls we dread getting as parents. Thank you to everyone who's called, texted or left a note here on FB

I am overcome with emotion for all the prayers, kindness and donations you've sent for Austin.

I haven't shared with him yet as he's staying sedated to manage his pain. I know he will be overwhelmed as this will help him immensely with all that he faces ahead.

Many have asked about his injuries...he has broken bones and fractures in his head including his sinuses and skull. He has a break in the C1 vertebrae in the neck. He is in a brace to help stabilize him. He has a break in his clavicle and chest. There is internal swelling due to a hematoma so he doesn't have control of the right side of his face. He has a tear in his aortic arch where blood is pooling.

The good news is all these things are treatable and he will recover. We are so very thankful for this.
