Austin Fights Cancer

Hi, my name is Alyssa Gibson and my mom, Shannon Foreman, and I are fundraising for my cousin Austin Gibson, who is 16.

A short time ago, after Austin was feeling “off” during school and sports. He went to his primary doctor for a physical on March 22. That same day he was sent to the ER and admitted to St Mary’s Hospital at Mayo Clinic. What no family wants to hear, Austin was given the diagnosis of stage 2b classical Hodgkins Lymphoma.

He had scans showing a mass in his chest near his heart and lungs, as well as cancerous lymph nodes. He underwent multiple surgical procedures during a 16 day stay at Mayo Clinic, and started inpatient chemotherapy before being discharged on April 7 to start outpatient treatment.

Austin likely has 6-8 months of treatments ahead. He is transitioning to online classes in the hopes of catching up on his missed work before the end of the school year. He misses skating, and is naturally concerned about hockey, school, and his overall health for the future.

The Gibsons are looking at a substantial family deductible, assorted out of pocket medical bills, as well as some treatments that insurance doesn’t want to cover. Their friends, family, hockey community, and many others have asked how to help. We are putting this together to do exactly that. This family has been such a huge part of so many people lives, and I know many want to pay it forward to ease the stress of this situation. Screw Cancer... Anything helps and the Gibson family would be so grateful to know they have a huge support system standing with them along the way.
