Hi, my name is Anne Ballantine.
My son Austin Bastiani was in a terrible motorcycle accident on the night of November 23, 2022. He had a traumatic brain injury and was operated on that night to stop the hemorrhaging in his brain. Since then, he has been in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator to help him breathe and allow his brain to heal. He also sustained several broken bones. He is currently in the ICU trauma center at Prisma Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Even with this terrible diagnosis, there are signs that Austin is responding; he occasionally can give a thumbs up and nod when asked.
The neurosurgeon told me he would be in the hospital for several more weeks before moving to a rehab facility. He is currently getting excellent one-on-one care at the hospital.
Unfortunately, South Carolina has a very different Medicaid program than we have in New york. He is only covered if he is diagnosed as completely disabled.
And there is no coverage for his rehab.
We are trying to raise funds for his rehab and recovery, which will be long and difficult. Please consider donating to help him recover from this terrible accident. All funds will be used for medical bills, time off work and caring for his dogs.
Thank you for any help that you can give.
Sincerely,
Anne Ballantine
