Aussie had a fine needle aspiration for a lump that just popped up the size of an egg on his shoulder on the 11th Feb. They found two abnormal stringy cells. So on the Friday 14th Feb he had surgery for a biopsy which the vet said looks like a nasty tumour....He was sent home with anti -inflammatory medication, antibiotics and sutures. Yesterday we got the sad news that he has a grade 1 sarcoma. As it is on his shoulder there is not much spare skin to cover up the wound when the tumour is removed so he will require a skin flap.
This surgery will take approx 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours.
So far I have spent $755.40 for the aspiration and biopsy.
The tumour removal will cost approx $2000.00.
There will then be on going medication and radiation treatment as he progresses and recovers.
Aussie will be ten this year and we have gone through so much together. He is otherwise a very fit and healthy boy who loves his life. He is my world.
As this is a grade 1 tumour which is graded by 3, the vet feels very optimistic that he will have a full recovery and the chances of it coming back or spreading are low if they remove it all. The removed tumour gets sent to pathology to make sure they have it all.
Please we can't do this without your generosity!
