AUSSIE DESERT DOGS - THE MOVIE!
For centuries, first the dingo, then the Australian desert dog has been an integral part of Australian Aboriginal culture, Jukurrpa (Dreamtime), artwork and community. Often given their own 'skin name' to place them within the social structure, a dog can be a brother, father, mother or auntie, depending on it's relationship to the individuals humans own personal skin name.
The relationship between Aboriginal peoples and dogs spans across spiritual, practical and traditional realms, protecting families and communities from dangers both real and in the dreamtime.
Due to the remoteness of many aboriginal communities and the limited understanding of how to fully meet the needs of the welfare of their animals, dog health and population has spiralled out of control in some areas of the country. One woman recognised the need to support, educate and inform the people of the community in which she lives, resulting in the best desexing program in the country, which is now supported and funded by the Central Desert Regional Council. This woman is Gloria Morales, founder of Aussie Desert Dogs, Assistant manager of Warlukurlangu Artists and the revered Dog Lady of Yuendumu.
The time has now come to make a full length documentary film, portraying the deep, spiritual connection between Aboriginal people and their dogs, exploring the ancestry, the dreaming and the modern day songlines of these powerful relationships.
And through the eyes of the dogs and their families, to explore the rich culture, songlines, art and land of the The First People of this country.
And of course, to tell the story Gloria, how she has selflessly dedicated her life to the dogs, and the impact one person has had on a whole community.
We will also be visiting different people who have adopted some of our Aussie Desert Dogs around the country and seeing where they have turned up!
Permission has been granted by the people of this community to make this film and the team is ready to go. We would like to call on you to help us to fund this venture and share this incredible story of respect, loyalty, culture and ancestral history. These funds will cover production costs, travel and basic living expenses, as well as give us the opportunity to give back to the people of the community and Aussie Desert Dogs for their time and help with the production and making of the film. The production team will not personally be taking any of the donated money for their own wages or renumeration beyond travel and basic costs.
We warmly welcome all of you to our premier film showings as they role out around the country next year!
Further details of this will be available as the film develops.
We welcome you on this exciting venture and look forward to updating you with stories, images and trailers as the filming gets under way.
Thank you!
