Aurora's Wheels

Hi,
My name is Katina and this is my beautiful niece Aurora.

She is severely disabled, she can't walk or talk, or feed herself.

She is in sudden desperate need for a vehicle to transport her. She is wheelchair bound and needs a specially adapted car to get ANYWHERE. There is no government funding for this so we need your help.

We need your help so that Aurora can go to school and participate in life.

This is her story...

My name is Aurora, I just turned 12 years old! I am really smart, I go to school and have lots of friends. Although I can't speak, I am really really good at communicating my needs and letting people know what I want, what I like and what I don't like.

It is pretty easy really, I laugh a lot when I am having fun, I point to what I want, I choose my food and my favourite DVD's and I frown and cry when I am unhappy.

I am top in my class for maths! The teacher asks a question and the answers are pictures on cards and I point to the right answer every time. The teacher thinks it is a lucky guess so she rearranges the answers and I still get it right! I don't mind that she tests me over and over again, I am very patient with her.

I am pretty easy going really.
My favourite things are
1. school
2. going on the bus to school
3. hanging out with my twin brothers ( even though they think that I am annoying)
4, going out anywhere! I love being out and about, on the move and engaging with people and places.

Aurora forgot to mention me as one of her favourite things. I love Aurora, it can take a little while to get to know her, but once you do it is impossible not to love her.

Three years ago my sister separated and now is a part time single mum.

My sister Anna does EVERYTHING for Aurora.

Watching Anna care for Aurora, I see how strong she is, how capable she is and even though it is relentless she just keeps going. Having a disabled daughter does not define her, it brings out her strength.

And it is hard. Very hard, the simplest, smallest, everyday details of life are hard. Getting Aurora up in the morning, dressing, feeding, moving, bathing, lifting, helping, even communicating the simplest thing is hard. And there is no end to this ever. That is life with disability. That is my sister's life.

Cars with wheelchair accessibility are really expensive. Anna needs help to get a car.

It is the most important piece of equipment next to Aurora's wheelchair. It has to be reliable and appropriate to their needs.

Watch how much Aurora loves being in the car...

So we are asking for help to buy a good reliable car with wheelchair accessibility for MY SISTER AND AURORA!

It takes quite a while to get a car as they have to specially made and there are not many available secondhand.

So we need to act now!

My sister is very independent and self-sufficient but this goes beyond her ability to accomplish single-handedly. She needs and deserves help.

If this campaign is able to get her a car, it would take one burden away from Anna's huge load of daily and lifelong challenges. It would help her maintain her independent life and free her from a difficult past.

Thank you for reading Aurora's story and for any help you can give.
