Aurora’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Three and a half years ago, Aurora received her second bilateral lung transplant at the age of 18, after her first transplant ended in chronic rejection. Since that time, she had been able to get back to a normal life. She went back to school to study culinary arts. She met her first boyfriend named Liam, who has been by her side since the moment they met. Everyone who saw Aurora could see that she was thriving and how happy she was. For a short time, she was able to feel what it's like to be an "average" person.
Over the summer, Aurora began feeling shortness of breath, and after many visits to Boston Children's Hospital, we finally discovered it was antibody rejection. We tried different treatments, but it quickly turned to chronic rejection. To say we are devastated is an understatement. Unfortunately, our options are limited this time around, but we are exploring all of them and choosing the one that gives us the most positive outcome. Aurora is scared, frustrated, and sad that she has to go through this again, but she is a warrior and the strongest person I've ever known. We are so lucky to have so many people supporting us through this journey. We could never do it without all of you.
For those looking to support Aurora, also known as "Rory" during this time, you can visit the Facebook page "Rory’s Tribe" where details about her GoFundMe and upcoming fundraisers will be posted. Sharing her story as much as possible will also help spread awareness and gather support.
