Aurora Middle Student Ruben Garcia and Family

Update 3/3/25-
Last week, our Aurora Science and Tech community lost a beloved student, Ruben, after his courageous battle with brain cancer. Ruben was a kind, bright, and spirited middle schooler who touched the lives of so many around him. His infectious smile and unwavering strength inspired his classmates, teachers, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Now, as his family navigates this unimaginable loss, we want to come together to support them in any way we can.
Ruben’s mother, a dedicated member of our food service department, has always been there for our students, ensuring they are cared for every day. His older brother, a student at our high school, is grieving the loss of his best friend and little brother. No family should have to face this heartbreak alone, and we hope to ease their burden by raising funds for funeral expenses and any other needs during this difficult time. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in honoring Ruben’s memory and supporting his family through this profound loss. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Good afternoon-
Our names are Brad Burck and Paola Asturias, we are both teachers and advisors to our student Ruben Garcia Espinosa Jr. He is currently a middle school student at Aurora Science and Tech middle school in Aurora Colorado. Ruben was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in December of 2023 and has subsequently undergone his first round of radiation treatment at Children's Hospital here at the Anschutz medical campus. Ruben has also started chemotherapy the week of February 26th.
We are working with his family to help offset expenses related to his treatment and support for his family. Ruben's mom is a valuable member of our school community as well as a leader in our food service department here on our AST Campus. Any and all help is beyond appreciated and will go to support their family during these trying times.
