Today I ask for you to join me in praying for our family from Leduc area, and if you feel called to donate, then support the Go Fund me page. Jaden my nephew, his wife Meaghan, 3 yr old daughter Rory (Aurora), and 1 yr old son Archer are a special part of our family. Jaden has served with the RCMP for the last 3.5 years in Camrose and Wetaskiwin, and had just accepted a transfer to Aklavik, NWT. They have received sudden and devastating news that has completely changed their world.
On Monday, July 14, their house went on the market preparing for their move North, with immediate offers and acceptance. Tuesday, July 15, their plans changed dramatically when Meaghan noticed petechia on Rory's neck, unexplained bruising, fevers, and pale skin. Rory was ambulanced to the Stollery for further testing, blood transfusions, and exploring all the potential causes. On Friday, July 18 Rory had a bone marrow biopsy that confirmed all suspicions that she has B-ALL Leukemia. We are praising God that her spinal tap to check for cancer around her brain and spine was negative.
Aurora immediately started a 3 year treatment regiment this week and continues in the hospital. The treatment includes spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies, IV chemo, oral chemo, steroids and transfusions as needed to support her little body through this process. Their Northern transfer has officially been cancelled and a closer transfer near family for support with Archer and Rory is in discussion.
Rory has a long road ahead of her to fight this cancer, and needs her mom or dad fulltime with her in the hospital throughout her treatments. This fundraiser is to help offset some of the costs that could cripple this young couple as they face an uncertain future; costs such as lost income with Jaden not working extra shifts (which he did so Meaghan could stay home fulltime with the kids), Meaghan having to shut down her dog sitting program, a move in the midst of the biggest crisis they could face, parking fees at the hospital (which add up crazily fast), meals while in hospital, to just name a few. One significant cost that their medical team made them aware of is Rory's treatments through the 3 years. Meds while in hospital are covered. Once out of the hospital, most of the medications are expensive and only partially covered by insurance, and require a co-pay system. One cream, not covered by insurance, used to help soothe the skin where her IVAD is, costs $80 a tube, and she will need up to four per month. $320 just for a cream, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. The total copay cost for all meds is still unknown
If you feel called to donate, no matter how small, know that it will bless Jaden and Meaghan immensely, and ultimately remove some of the financial burden so they are able to fully focus on supporting Rory through all the painful treatments. And please, pray for them. Pray for miraculous healing for Rory, for strength for Meaghan as the medical mama road is brutally exhausting, for little Archer as he faces many days away from his favorite person in the world (you should see his face when she sings to him!), and for Jaden as he shifts in his future path to support his family and 'be all things' at home while Meaghan is with Rory.
It's a hard road ahead, and I am so thankful you are coming alongside them in prayer and financially if you feel so led. I know it means the world to Jaden and Meaghan too.
