Aura's Fight Against FIP!!

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Dakota (Codiee) Francoeur and my kitten has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive and invariably fatal disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis.

As some may know, we took Aura to the vet on Tuesday, as she was very suddenly unwell (not eating, very lethargic, fever). And they ran blood work, ultrasound, and a urinalysis. All signs were pointing to Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). It comes on very suddenly and it’s extremely aggressive and fatal. Diagnosis is tricky because there is no test for it. And unfortunately, there is no FDA-approved treatment in the US. The only thing our vet can do is provide comfort care as her conditions worsen and/or hospitalization until she passes.
As of 2019, there is a successful treatment to cure FIP. I have been able to get more information through a support group on FB and we got started on our first injection last night. The treatment consists of 84 days of daily injections + routine blood work, 84 days of observation (no injections + blood work), and then if all blood work is good - she is considered cured of FIP.

All this being said, the treatment is only effective if she takes well to it. The most common side effects of the injections include burning/stinging for a few seconds after injecting, she could develop some sores as a systemic response to the medication, and she may be sleepy after the injection. But we are supposed to see results within 24-48 hours of the first injection and we have been seeing that! We are hopeful!!

This has been an extremely emotional time for us. But, she is our baby and we will not give up on her!!! Our options were to either pursue the treatment or let her health decline until she passes - and if anyone knows me, that was NOT an option. Also, depending on which type of FIP she has (wet, dry, or neuro/ocular) could have been just a few short weeks. For us, if there is even a shot at letting our sweet girl have a long, happy, healthy life, then we will roll those dice, every. damn. time.

It’s horrible horrible news, but we are trying to remain as hopeful and optimistic as possible with this treatment. There are a lot of people who have healthy and happy kitties after successful treatment, but it is going to be very hard, very expensive, and there are a lot of unknowns.

So, I am raising funds to help us cover the cost of treatment, vet visits and blood work, medications, and supplies. Every cent we can raise will be spent toward her and her recovery. If anyone has any questions about anything at all, please reach out! We are an open book!

We appreciate all the love and support that we have gotten thus far! And we will continue to update everyone on Aura's progress!
