Aura’s Cancer Journey
It all started in 2010 when she started having symptoms when her menstrual period suddenly changed, her bleeding also was heavier than usual and consistently having pain in her lower abdomen. Tests like scans and blood tests were done but only ruled out myoma. Because of the chronic pain they decided to move to Winnipeg to get it checked. Went to 3 doctors and one of them is a specialist already and yet they can’t find what’s wrong with her and just diagnosed her with just myoma again. 2012, still having the chronic abdominal pain and heavy menstrual bleeding and this time her hemoglobin gotten so low that she’s having difficulty of breathing they decided to do an emergency hysterectomy and right away the doctors knew it was cancer but so rare they had to send the sample to Mayo clinic. Diagnosis was epitheloid leiomyosarcoma. Chemotherapy was suggested. Then the cancer doctor sent her back to her family doctor
5 years had passed and she started having symptoms like difficulty breathing. the cancer came back more aggressively.
It metastasized on her spine and lungs. She had several rounds of chemo and radiation therapy that didn’t help. She even tried oral chemotherapy but no luck. The oncologist told her that there’s nothing they can do at this point and they told her to sign a do not resuscitate form as she will die soon. But knowing Aura and her positive spirit and the never ending faith in God and love for ger family she decided that it’s not time yet to give up and amidst covid pandemic they decided to go back to the Philippines and tried alternative medicine which is expensive and not covered by their insurance. This helped make her feel better and she was able to enjoy her life’s extension as she called it.
Last year things started going bad again. She started experiencing more severe symptoms again. She’s having mire difficulty breathing and the slightest irritation brings about coughing spells.
Last Christmas she got so sick that she thought that was it and that she would be dying soon.
Knowing her she doesn’t want anyone, not even her husband and parents to worry about her, so she tried carrying on as if she was not suffering with every breath.
She really tried but one day she just broke down and told her mom in the Philippines that she can’t take it anymore and that she’s suffering so much all the time.
So her relatives brought her mom a ticket to go to Canada to visit her and help her look after everyone.
Her oxygen level become 60-70% just by walking and lower if she walk don and up the stairs. The oncologist told her that there’s no more they can do at this point. Last week she transitioned to Palliative care and she signed the do not resuscitate form as well.
She said that God gave her an extension already and that she lift everything to God. When God wants her to just rest she will accept it.
Even though she’s on palliative care, with oxygen concentrator at home, she’s still bringing her kids to school and other activities
To be able to do these she needs portable oxygen to be able to breathe. Her portable oxygen is not covered by her insurance so they need to pay for the oxygen. She’s on 2-4LPM of oxygen so her portable tank will only last for 1-2 hour before she needs to get a fresh tank. To be able to function everyday she consumes 3-4 tanks of oxygen. A cheaper alternative that is more reliable is the portable oxygen concentrator that she can use without having to worry about carrying so many oxygen tanks or wether they would be enough to get her thru the day. Also funds will be used for her organic foods that is more costly in Canada and for Naturopathic consultations and treatments that are not covered by Manitoba Health. She will undergo naturopathic treatment for 3 months twice a week in Winnipeg and the cost per treatment is $850 cad.
It will be a great help for her and her family if everyone include them in your prayers and as well as any financial support will be a great help. She’s really bad at asking help from other people even to her family and she doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone but she’s always willing to help anyone that needs help in any way she can.
She’s a selfless woman and we as her friends will be happy to help her in the simple way we can. Thank you and may God bless you in return!

UPDATE!
Aura has started her Naturopath treatment last March 12, 2024 and hopefully with all your kindness and generosity she would be able to complete her 3 months course of treatment that will cost her $20,400 cad. Thank you for all the support and prayers. Godbless.
