Howdy y'all! Alright, so, first of all, I have a teratoma. What the heck is that, you might ask? Well, don't google images unless you want to be really grossed out. A teratoma, according to the internets is "...is a rare type of germ cell tumor that may contain immature or fully formed tissue, including teeth, hair, bone and muscle. Most teratomas are benign (noncancerous) but they can be malignant (cancerous). Treatment involves surgical removal." My teratoma is very large and definitely has to come out!
Basically, I went to urgent care for what I was sure was a kidney stone, and came out with said kidney stone and what also looked like a large mass in my abdomen. A few more doctors appointments later, and I had my diagnosis of a large, gross ball of fat and hair that is not supposed to be there. Lucky me! It is benign, thankfully, but you don't want to let those little 'tomas overstay their welcome.
I really tried to downplay my diagnosis with friends, family and coworkers, mainly because I have issues with making people feel bad. I didn't want to be scared, so why should anyone else? However, upon my most recent phone call with my gynecologist, I was reminded that this is indeed major surgery and that my recovery is going to be 2-3 weeks!
All this to say that I will be out of work for quite a bit, and unfortunately, my bills don't take days off. This surgery was a huge surprise and I wasn't able to save any money for this lil' (but also kind of huge) emergency.
If you've read this far, thank you! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
