Donation protected
Dan was diagnosed in October 2017 with Non-Hodgkins Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma (NOS, Not Otherwise Specified), a rare form of blood cancer that crossed over to the spinal fluid and brain. He had 85 days in the hospital, 7 rounds of chemo that didn't work, 3 weeks of radiation, one week of intense chemo before transplant, then a bone marrow transplant (donor was his sister Sue) which took place Feb. 9, 2018. He also had 21 lumbar punctures with chemo in his spine. We arrived home on April 27, 2018 after 12 weeks in Milwaukee. Clear in May, cancer returned in June, bone marrow booster in July, Graft Versus Host Disease in August affecting eyes, liver, kidneys, lungs (and pneumonia), 5 more days in the hospital in Sept. Then finally a few months of "normal life." WHEW!!!
Feb. 2019: Bone marrow biopsy and CT scan are clear. First anniversary has passed which is a milestone.
Feb.-March 2019: Influenza A and pneumonia.
April 2019: Immunities starting to come. Being weaned off oral chemo.
May 2019: Begin receiving all childhood vaccinations. given the OK to travel.
July 2019: Numbers back to where they should be (kidneys, liver, etc). More vaccinations.
Dec. 2019: Back in hospital for GVHD
July 2020: Extensive brain damage diagnosed due to cancer treatments
Severe White Matter Disease diagnosed
January 2021: Osteonecrosis of shoulder; surgery scheduled for April 12
April 30-May 4: At Froedtert for a battery of tests to look for the return of cancer; no concrete results
May 11: Meningitis bacteria detected in spinal fluid; two weeks of heavy duty antibiotics prescribed
Dr. Shah says there is nothing more they can do for Dan
