Aunt Sharon's medical expenses

Hello,

After careful consideration, I'm starting this fundraiser for my Uncle Ed on behalf of his wife, Sharon. While Aunt Sharon started showing signs of dementia about 4 years ago, she had a stroke in June of 2023, which greatly exacerbated her cognitive decline. She is in a rehab center for long term care. Through their ignorance of the system, and lack of guidance, Ed and Sharon never got original Medicare when turning 65, and medical expenses are piling up beyond their ability to manage them.

Two weeks ago, while in the long term care facility, Sharon fell and broke her hip. Surgery repaired it, but until it is fully healed, she has to remain in bed or in a wheelchair with an uncomfortable bolster. Her dementia keeps her from fully understanding this, and she needs constant supervision. On Christmas Eve, before the sitter arrived, she fell again. Thankfully, no further damage was done, but this reinforced the need for her to have a sitter in her room every night.

The cost of the sitter is $300/night...$2100/week. I don't know anyone who can afford $9,000/month in extra expenses right now. Certainly not my family.

After a lifetime of hard work, my Uncle & Aunt only have Social Security income. No pensions, and not a lot of money in the bank. And THAT is going FAST.

Any support you could give, any donation, will be greatly appreciated and will be used to pay for these sitters. Our initial fundraising goal is far less than the expenses already paid.
