Hi, my name is Becky. I'm Elizabeth Sayles' mom and Chase Sayles' mother-in-law. Elizabeth went to the Emergency Room and started going into preterm labor on March 1st at only 22 weeks of pregnancy. The doctors did everything possible to stop the labor, but August still decided to come at 12:24 a.m. on March 6th (23 weeks, 2 days gestation), only weighing a tiny 15.9 ounces (under one pound). The wonderful doctors and nurses at WakeMed prepared them for a long battle filled with good days & really hard days. August overcame and impressed the doctors at every turn. We all began to have hope that we would be seeing August riding on a scooter around the neighborhood, bowling with his Pappy and Gigi, baking cookies with his Nana and Papa, and digging up worms in the back yard. Chase and Elizabeth planned to celebrate his birthday every Sunday. They had just celebrated his two-week birthday when things took a drastic turn later that evening. August & the doctors did everything they could, but unfortunately, the entire family gathered Tuesday morning to say our goodbyes. As one can only imagine, Elizabeth and Chase left the hospital without baby August in their arms. They soon found out that because August only lived 16 days, a program that would pick up what their insurance would not cover would no longer be doing so because their baby had passed away.

 

So, I am creating this fundraiser to help them cover the medical bills that will not be covered and ease the pain of receiving medical bills for baby August; their first baby who didn't come home with them. This is the last thing they should have to worry about. All funds will be used to help cover what their insurance will not cover and costs for his cremation.

 

Please continue to keep Elizabeth and Chase in your thoughts and prayers as they journey through their grief and healing. Although August was only with us on earth for 16 days, he left an imprint on our hearts that will last forever. We have been humbled by the love and support they have received from so many of you and through the loss of baby August.
