August spent 16 days at Mary Bridge Children's hospital with 3 days in the PICU. He had an ear infection that lasted a week and worked its way into the skull causing, a febrile seizure, mastoiditis, two abscesses and a blood clot in his brain, and bacterial meningitis. In treatment he has had a lumbar puncture, CT scan, 4 MRI's, ear surgery, brain surgery, EEG scan and a PICC line installed. He has been on 5 different IV antibiotics, anti-seizure medicine, blood thinner, morphine, and oxycodone. His care team included a neurosurgeon, neurologist, infectious disease, hematologist, hospitalist, ENT, OT, PT, SLP, and home infusion. While home his care plan includes at least 3 appointments at Mary Bridge and 1 in home appointment each week for at least another month. We also need to be extra careful since he is immunocompromised to keep our house extra sanitized and avoid large crowds as there are several sicknesses going around right now. For those who would like to donate, the funds would go towards the continued care for August. A few of the things include:
- An air purifier with a HEPA filter that can filter down to 1 micron.
- Gas to get August to all his appointments.
- Medical bills (we are working on sorting out with insurance what is supposed to be covered, the blood thinner is $250 per month for a 6 month treatment)
- Grab and go food as we are traveling to and from appointments, or when there isn't enough time to make food from scratch
- Helping with general bills as we wait for benefits to kick in.
- Other needs as they arise
Thank you so much for considering helping!
