August R. Hubbard Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Auggie was a sophomore in college. He loved playing the tuba, acting in theatre, and discussing philosophy, theology, history, and psychology. He was an art-loving boy enchanted by big ideas and huge questions. He sought justice for the oppressed and always had a deep heart for underdogs.
As a community that cares about the Hubbard Family, we've created this fundraiser to help defray funeral costs so they can focus on remembering Auggie and healing together.

August Robert was born on December 22, 2000, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Robert and April (Blomquist) Hubbard. After moving to Iowa in 2002, Auggie attended Orange City Christian School and MOC-Floyd Valley High School in Orange City where he played in band as an All-State musician and participated in theater and soccer. Growing up, he worked at the Orange City pool and at Fareway Grocery. He then attended Northwestern College in Orange City where he was currently a sophomore.
Auggie loved playing and listening to music. He masterfully played the tuba, bass guitar, and guitar. He participated in concert band, pep band, and theater at Northwestern. He was an art-loving boy enchanted by big ideas and huge questions. He sought justice for the oppressed and always had a heart for underdogs. He advocated for his beliefs firmly, and would enthusiastically converse about them with anyone, always seeking greater knowledge. He deeply loved animals and spent much of his free time playing and cuddling with them, especially his feisty rat terrier/chihuahua mix, Medea.
Auggie’s favorite thing to talk about recently was what his college major should be. A brilliant and passionate young man, he could not decide between history, music, psychology, political science, sociology, and theater. He was just too interested in everything and wanted to find a calling where he could do the most good in the world. He was always concerned with helping people, whether it was through art, discovery, or institutional change.
Auggie became a confirmed member of Church of the Savior in Orange City in 2019, after attending this church for many years with his family. This little Episcopal church has a tradition of discussing the sermons within the service, and Auggie was known and admired for his challenging and thoughtful questions and wise observations about theology and scripture.
Auggie is survived by his parents, Robert and April, of Orange City; brother, George Hubbard, of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Hubbard and Abbey Bos, of Des Moines; grandparents, George and Joanne Slanger, of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandmother, Violet Blomquist, of Edmore, North Dakota; uncles and aunts, Paul and Julie Saxton, Carol (Blomquist) and Danny Recuenco, Richard Blomquist; and cousins, Benjamin Saxton, Rachel Downing Saxton, Nicholas Saxton, Alexander Recuenco and Alison Recuenco.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Dean Hubbard and Charles Blomquist.
