Augie's Cancer Battle

Hi, my name is Augie.

Hairy Cell Leukemia wasn’t the diagnosis I had been expecting a few weeks ago. It isn’t the diagnosis that my family expected as I sat in the hospital bed for an entire week while the nurses kept saying, “just one more test.”

This diagnosis has taken my family and me on quite a trip. And I don’t mean the typical and unexpected weekend road trips Tiffany, Kendra and myself take with our three dogs, Buddy, Bella and Maggie! This trip is something else entirely, and we aren’t sure where it will lead us, but we know the direction to start in.

This GoFundMe has been created on my behalf as I am meant to start treatments as soon as my insurance kicks in, but it most likely won’t cover much with the daily chemo treatments, blood transfusions and prescriptions on the horizon. Not to mention, in this whirlwind of events, my shop of 35 years was broken into and a vehicle stolen. Just another trip my family and I weren’t quite expecting on this wild ride we call life.

With this rare type of cancer, the bone marrow makes too many B cells which is a type of white blood cell that fights infection. The reduced number of healthy white blood cells puts me at risk of infections and diseases that my healthy body once might have fought off. To avoid the added risk and to accommodate upcoming treatments, I will be unable to work during the majority of this time. With the bills, grocery, insurance, medicine and the necessary repairs to the shop adding up, money will be unexpectedly tight.
