My dream job got shut down this year. I've been with The Forest Playschool for the past three years as the Chef & Food Education Director. This meant I got to be a teacher with kids in the forest, cooking with them, growing food and foraging with them! It was perfect and it's been heartbreaking that it is over.

But... I'm not giving up! To keep my dream alive, I decided to get a Forest School teacher training certificate in Canada through The Forest School of Canada. My co-teacher Elizabeth and I are working with our former Administrative person to create new programming called Wonder Woods. I believe that I will be able to be even more of a benefit to forest school programs if I receive this training. Our lead teacher is also not giving up. Teresa has created a campaign called Forest Schools For IL to make it legal for forest schools to exist in Illinois. Check it out too :)

A little about the program I am doing:
Themes to be covered include the theoretical underpinnings of Forest Nature Schools, practical skills, and establishment and delivery. There is a strong emphasis in this course on self-directed, experiential, and inquiry-driven outdoor learning.

The course includes an intensive, in-person portion where all educators come together to facilitate the formation of a community of practice. Following the in-person part of the course, educators return home to launch into course work, which includes self-directed reading, completing assignments, and delivering six practice Forest and Nature School sessions to a student group. After completion, I will receive a Forest School Teacher Certification.
