Dearest friends,
Our Mom, Audrey Smith, has battled with severe early onset rheumatoid arthritis her entire adult life. Being an autoimmune disease, it has at times affected much more than her joints. Over the last seven years, her greatest struggle has been with her right leg.
After a routine knee replacement led to complications, she has had over 10 surgeries trying to fix and stabilize her leg. Unfortunately, there is nothing more that can be done and shortly after the holidays, she will have her right leg amputated just above the knee. While this procedure will be profoundly life-changing, it is our hope that it will decrease her pain, allow her to rejoin her favorite activities and visit family more often, and ultimately lead to a better quality of life.
A surgery of this magnitude requires an excess of planning and forethought. We already know that insurance will not cover some of the essential items that will be required for long-term recovery and success. At this time, we are asking for your help to ensure that Audrey has the support she needs to fully heal and take back her life.
Any donations will go towards the following essentials:
- The cost of a specialized prosthetic leg
- Inpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy
- Uncovered medical costs and hospital bills
- Travel costs for Audrey’s husband, Mike, as they live 2 hours away from the hospital
Our family thanks you for your kindness and support. During this time, we also ask for your continued prayers and thoughts of healing and peace. While this road has been a discouraging and difficult path at times, we are forever grateful for those that have come alongside us in love and faithfulness. We will be sharing updates about Audrey‘s journey here as things progress.
Your compassion and generosity means so very much to us. May you and your family be blessed this holiday season with joy, peace, and light.
With gratitude and love,
Stephanie Teel, Greg Teel, Charlie Smith, Caitlin Smith, Courtney Smith, and all of Mike and Audrey’s grandchildren
