Help Audrey Heal Ozzi
Donation protected
Since I met Audrey (circa 1995), she has always dreamed of having her very own horse. Fast forward to 2024, Audrey, the go-getter that she is, finally made her dream come true when she adopted Azimal, casually known as Ozzi. Little did she know that her first 6 months of horse ownership would far exceed anything she had ever imagined.
In December, Ozzi reacted to routine vaccines, leading to an emergency visit to the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center for surgery. After surgery, we found out Ozzi had contracted a VERY rare infection from his vaccines. Thankfully, Audrey is a diligent horse mom and continued to advocate for him, despite early examinations showing little to no symptoms. This is what ultimately saved his life.
Since returning home to Richfield just before the new year, Audrey has been cleaning Ozzi's wounds to ensure that the infection is at bay. This has proven tough several times as both Ozzi and Audrey are ready for this whole ordeal to be done with. Shout out to Beth (Audrey's mom) and Ryan (Audrey's husband) who have been going above and beyond to ensure Audrey and Ozzi get the help they need during this wild ride.
Ozzi was hospitalized locally in January due to concerns about his incisions healing quicker than the infection internally, and in February, he returned to OSUVMC for what was supposed to be an outpatient surgery but turned into a short-term hospital stay.
Needless to say, this situation is truly one in a million. When one takes on horse ownership, these kinds of medical emergencies are always in the back of their mind as a possibility, but it is very rare that they actually happen, especially being only 6 months in.
I'm creating this GoFundMe in hopes that we might be able to put together some funds to help Audrey offset some of the $25k+ medical bills that have accrued in order to revive Ozzi's health.
