We saved this beautiful girl when she was about a year old from a drunk owner who was planning to get her impregnated to produce more puppies for sale. She was skin and bones and had not gone through proper vet checks. She was very fidgety and scared of many of the 'city' noises but she looked at us with her huge eyes and melted our hearts. We brought her home to be a companion to our other Labrador Tyler. The last 7 years of constant love and attention, our Audie-girl became a cheerful, happy, playful, and a loving dog. She loves to play and most times will approach you with her huge tail wagging, with either a ball or toy in her mouth so you can throw it for her to catch. She also loves to jump up to grab a high ball.
In April 2019, we took her and Tyler to the creek to play in the water and when she came out, she had the worst limp in her right hind leg. We took her immediately to the vet, and they diagnosed her with a severe cranial tear that required her to get TPLO surgery. After weeks of watching over her during her recovery, like most Labradors, she doesn't sit still, so we have kept her partially sedated so she doesn't hurt her other leg. On July 5th, when I got home from a trip to the grocery store, I saw that she wouldn't put her left hind leg down properly. We took her to the vet, they took xrays and they confirmed she has a cranial tear in that leg as well. They recommended immediate surgery so that she doesn't use the right hind leg more and cause stress on it, preventing it from healing properly. They quoted the same price as the first surgery. As most dog owners know, veterinary medical bills are extremely expensive.
As the sole provider for our household, the new bill will put me in a financial hardship over the already large bill from earlier this year. Our pets have brought us so much comfort over the years and loved us back unconditionally that I can not bear to see her in so much discomfort. I don't want to give her up to a shelter, but I don't want to have to choose between putting food on the table either. Your donations will help us to get Audie the surgery she needs and allow us to keep her in our household for many more years to come. Every penny will be most appreciated and we will post pictures of her recovery. All donations will be used to pay for Audie's medical bills, and any extra donations will be donated to the local SPCA or given forward to other GoFundMe dog owners that need financial assistance. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
