Hey friends,
I made this GoFundMe on behalf of one of my very dear friends, Aubrey, who I’ve known for over a decade now. After 2+ years of being on the waitlist, they finally got the confirmation date for top surgery, which is extremely exciting!
Everyone that knows and loves Aubrey knows how much of a life-changing procedure this will be. They’ve waited so long for this day to come and have had to go circumvent some honestly wild ass traumatic life experiences to get here, but now they finally have this opportunity to drastically improve their quality of life.
Unfortunately, American healthcare and especially, trans healthcare coverage, sucks and this date came with very little notice (surgery date is August 24, 2023) and with the unfortunate news that Aubrey will have to pay the full deductible out of pocket. It’s bullshit and we all know it. That’s why I’m writing this and why I’m asking for y’alls support in helping make this happen.
If you’re finding this through me and you don’t know Aubrey personally, you may recognize them as the bassist of our former band Kanta Kanta. As someone who identifies as a non-binary person of the Filipino diaspora, it was really important to me to be in a band with other trans Filipinos and even though we’re no longer in a band together, I want to highlight how important Aubrey was to the project of Kanta Kanta and how I felt they were often overlooked, even though they were a very intentional part of that project, so I’m asking my friends who supported our band while it existed, but may have never had the opportunity to meet and get to know Aubrey to help us meet our goal. It’s a lofty one so I really, truly mean it when I say that every dollar counts.
The procedure itself will cost $4,500 and they will also need extra funds to go towards their aftercare as they will also be missing a significant amount of work for the procedure itself as well as the recovery.
It’s pride month after all so let’s give to our trans homies what we can. I know it’s already so hard to exist/survive in this world, whether you identify as queer or not, but a few dollars that might otherwise go to a cup of coffee or a movie or something might literally save Aubrey’s life.
And if you can’t spare anything right now, I’d appreciate you spreading the word and maybe even dm’ing your friends with guilty consciences and deep pockets. We only have a few weeks to make this happen so every dollar and every share counts!
With love,
Frankie
