Support Steve’s Road to Recovery ♥
On November 12th, 2025, just a few weeks before Thanksgiving break, Steve was on the roof painting the trim and preparing for the holiday season when he fell off the roof onto the concrete bricks. This resulted in multiple brain bleeds, a fractured pelvis, left-side paralysis, and many bruises. Unfortunately, Steve was home alone during the accident, but his lucky puppy, Willow, was the one who found him and alerted the neighbors, who then called for help. Our family is indebted to Willow, who is not a service animal but a loyal, loving animal, and to our neighbor who acted quickly. Steve was admitted to the local hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. He stayed in the ICU for a little less than two weeks with little to no responsiveness. Our family made the tough and hopeful call to put Steve on a ventilator and feeding tube to help with his care and recovery.
After a few weeks, neurological testing indicated an increase in responsiveness when Willow was mentioned. This gave our family hope, and with the kindness of the hospital staff, Willow was able to visit Steve. On Monday, November 24th, Steve opened his eyes when he heard and felt Willow, his special girl. Since then, Steve has improved little by little, day by day. On Thanksgiving Day, the doctors found an infection in Steve’s lungs. This resulted in precautions being made to ensure he recovers from the infection while fighting for his life.
On November 30th, God answered our prayers, and Steve was cleared to be transported to Baylor Scott and White in the Dallas area. Our continued prayer is for Steve to hopefully recover from the ventilator, feeding tubes, and infections to begin rehab. Our goal is for Steve to get his life back, but not only drive his 1965 Cobra kit car that he built himself last year. Steve is a loving son, husband, dad, grandfather, brother, and friend. He has been a loyal employee of Southwest Airlines for 7 years, and his co-workers have even traveled far and near to visit Steve. He is the provider of our family and always makes sure everyone is taken care of. We love him with all our hearts and haven't left his side since the accident. We also believe God will help him through this recovery process.
Your support would mean the world to our family as we try and navigate through this tough time. This is going to be a long recovery for Steve, and we ask for your prayers as well. Insurance won't cover everything, so we ask for $150,000 to help pay for medical bills.
Steve was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1961. He is the youngest boy out of 5 other siblings and has remained in Wichita Falls. In 1982, Steve met his wife Jan, with whom they had 2 children, Ashley and Adam, and 4 grandchildren, Mia, Emma, Judson, and Cole. Steve, being the pillar of this family, still managed to drive to Dallas multiple times a week to provide for this family and still show up to his grandchildren's life events. Steve loves sports like football and baseball, but especially racing cars, which he used to do back in the day. Steve has even placed in a vintage car show held by Southwest Airlines.
Steve is fighting and will continue to fight to have his life back. Our family will continue to be by his side and pray for God’s help and healing. It truly takes a village, and with the loving support of us all, he will be able to continue to show up to his grandkids' life events, walk his daughter down the aisle, drive his dream car, take his 91-year-old mother on weekly lunch dates, cuddle with Willow, and create more memories with his wife.
We really do appreciate your generosity and for reading this heartfelt message during this tough time. Nothing can prepare you for an injury of this magnitude, and we are deeply grateful every day for the support and love for Steve.
We will continue to update you all with details on Steve’s road to recovery. We want to sincerely thank the ambulance crew, the emergency room care providers, the ICU hospital staff at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas, for your attentive care and kind hearts. We want to thank the current hospital staff at Baylor Scott and White for your care during this time. Lastly, the future rehabilitation staff who will eventually get Steve to be able to do daily life tasks.
Please feel free to share Steve’s story and love on your furry friends a little extra because you truly never know when they may save your life.
With love and thanks for your support.
The Bowman Family
