I Was Scammed — Please Help Me and My Family Recover

Hi, my name is Janilyn, and I’m currently working as an au pair in Europe. I never imagined I would be in this kind of situation, but I’m reaching out with a humble heart because my family and I are going through a very painful and difficult time.

Some time ago, I was contacted by people who claimed to be from a trusted bank in Asia. They offered what seemed like a safe loan opportunity to help people like me build a future. I joined a group chat with others who I believed were also applying for loans — everything looked professional and real.

But it was all a scam.

I believed I was helping my family take a big step forward — to buy land and build a simple house in our home country. Instead, I was manipulated into sending more and more money. In total, they stole 30000 Danish kroner (around €4,000 or $4,400) from me.

To come up with the money they demanded, I had to:

• Sell my motorbike — my only transport at home

• Take out loans in my family’s name

• Use all my savings

Now, we are left with nothing, and worse — we are in debt. My family, who were already struggling, are now in an even more desperate situation because of this. I feel so ashamed and heartbroken, but I know I must be brave and try to fix what happened.
